Make time to slow down and take a stroll as the sun sets on the charming streets of Florence in the company of a local expert.
Discover the legacy of Florence…
Duration: 4 Hours
This tour runs Monday to Saturday except for the first Tuesday of each month
All the streets of Florence seem to lead to the Duomo – the heart and raison d’etre of this beautiful Italian city. This magnificent white, pink, and green marble cathedral (the third biggest church in the world) with its famous Dome is dedicated to Santa Maria del Fiore and is one of several must-see attractions in Florence.
Avoid the long lines to enter the Cathedral by joining our small-group walking tour with a local expert.
The buildings within the historic center of Florence date back to 1296 and are all UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Our Ultimate Duomo Tour includes the Baptistery, the Cathedral, the Dome and the Museum that houses the original artworks that enriched these buildings in the past.
Not everyone can say they have entered the Cathedral and seen the breathtaking dome up-close, but we make sure that our tour includes every single important highlight. Climb up the Brunelleschi’s dome with your guide and learn how the 150-foot wide dome was constructed 180-feet above the ground without scaffolding, and see the wonderful paintings of the Last Judgment by Vasari and Zuccari. They are still among the largest fresco paintings in the world!
With your knowledgeable local guide, you’ll get priority admission to the octagonal Baptistery, best known for its ceiling decorated by golden mosaics and its gleaming bronze doors known as the Gates of Paradise. As you join other tourists in gazing at the relief work on the detailed panels, you will no doubt be surprised to hear that these are not the original bronze doors – the authentic East Doors are actually on display in the museum.
The tour continues in the Duomo Museum, where incredible authentic masterpieces like the gates of the Baptistery, Donatello’s sculptures, and the original dome’s wooden scaffoldings are exhibited. You could spend hours wandering through the displays, but your guide will focus on highlights such as Michelangelo’s Pietà. You will hear why Michelangelo tried to destroy it and see tell-tale signs of the repaired damage to this world-famous sculpture.
Visiting Florence is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and you won’t want to miss a thing. Our guide will make your visit memorable and interesting, combining local history, facts, and snippets with unforgettable views of the city from the Giotto’s bell tower (optional climb after the tour).
