Tallinn Shore Excursions: Old Town and Kalamaja Tour

Meet your expert guide at the port once your ship docks and join your very small group or private tour to see Tallinn’s Old Town.

Explore the charm of Tallinn’s old town, a perfect place to wander galleries and craft workshops. Follow your guide to foodie hotspots and historically charming buildings. Walk through the pages of a children’s fairytale book in the Town Hall Square.

This walking tour will cover the lower and upper towns, featuring the largest and grandest of buildings, before finishing at the Toompea Hill with stunning views.

Second part of your tour will be the Telliskivi. Recently the area has taken on a Bohemian atmosphere, becoming the residence of choice for young, creative types. Immerse yourself in this local atmosphere of exciting art, culture, and design center for artists, hipsters, and design lovers. Telliskivi is a collection of factory buildings that slowly transformed into a favorite hangout for those who enjoy off-beat restaurants, art expos, craft beer, antique shopping, alternative theatre, and clubbing.

Kalamaja is famous for its wooden houses and bohemian charm. ‘Kalamaja’ literally means ‘fish house’ in Estonian, and starting from the 14th century the area was traditionally dominated by fishermen, fishmongers, and Boatwrights.

Clever use of space and dedicated use of local produce makes the local restaurant and cafés an integral part of the Kalamaja atmosphere. The wooden houses built to accommodate these workers became Kalamaja’s architectural legacy and are now what gives the neighborhood its unforgettable charm.

End the tour at the dock in time for your ship’s departure or enjoy free time in Tallinn if time allowing.
