The Acropolis is easily the most popular monument in Athens, on this tour we give a detailed tour including the major highlights. We wanted to offer a tour with less emphasis on history but more on the local street life of Athens so that you can see the most important landmarks and also experience the local culture.
The Acropolis is comprised of many buildings and offers beautiful views of Athens. We will look at how the rock of the Acropolis itself serves as a reference point for the modern development of Athens.
Your local guide will talk about the most famous myths of ancient Athens, its most significant religious festivals, earliest cults and how several certain events in the city’s history are all connected to this sacred precinct.
The monuments of the Acropolis stand in harmony with their natural setting. These unique masterpieces of ancient architecture combine different orders and styles of Classical art most innovatively and have influenced art and culture for many centuries.
Enjoy your local guide’s knowledge who is an excellent expert on Greek mythology and history.
Immerse yourself in the very atmosphere, history, and culture of this glorious Greek city with an exceptional local guide. It’s a great walk to enjoy the local life in Athens and see people in their everyday heyday. The second part of the tour focuses on a downhill walk and around the little gem neighborhood of Anafiotika. Mimicking the Cycladic architecture, with its stark white cubic houses, flat roofs and colorful shutters and doors, Anafiotika is truly a little island in the Greek metropolis.
This unique neighborhood in the capital was constructed in the 19th-century, when King Otto, sovereign of the newly established Greek monarchy, decided to revamp the new capital.
It was built by workers from the island Anafi. Escape the crowds of busy Plaka and take in unique views of the Athenian jungle and the Lycabettus hill. Wander through the narrow streets of Anafiotika, admire the many bougainvillea-covered walls and end your walk with a Greek coffee!
We meet at the Acropolis Metro Station. Your guide will have a signboard that says “Walks In Europe”.
If you are arriving on the metro, please make your way to the surface and wait by the metro sign that says “Entrance D. Areopagitou 15”.
If you are not arriving by the metro, please find the metro sign that says “Akropoli”.
